Online Schooling: Pros and Cons

Hi there! Harshith here! Welcome back to my blog: Harshith's Days!

Today I am writing about the Pros and Cons of Online Schooling.

šŸŒ + šŸ“=ā”

Before I wrote this post, I was talking with my friends. They always talk about how awesome it would have been if we had actually met in school. Like study together, eat lunch together, etc.! To say the truth, it was 90% to 10%. So it was a BIG Agree to Disagree.

We had this debate (we actually arranged it as an activity for our Social Studies assignment!) on the Pros and Cons of Online Schooling.

What the '"Pro" (It's GOOD)āœ”ļø' side had to offer

Ā

When we attend classes online, more than the new method of building a healthy Teacher- Student relationship, we had an even better exposure to online tools. For ex: Science practical tests are generally conducted in the school labs. But in online classes we have virtual labs where we can commence and observe Chemical Reactions and we could also make working 3D circuits, with a bulb, wire, switch etc.! We can have lunch at our own time and we have looooong breaks in which we can relax! I mean, what's to hate in online classes! We have interactions with teachers & friends , we can use different online tools, make presentations (which we used to do very rarely in real school), we can eat lunch at our desired time or even eat forever šŸ”„! We just love Online Classes! They're the best!

Yeah yeah, let's see what the Cons side had to offer:

What the '"Con" (It's THE WORST)āŒ' side had to offer

Ā

We can see our friends and teachers and feel them in physical classes. But in online classes we cannot feel each other. There is less social interaction with the teachers and friends. No more group activities on chart papers and using supplies, all activities are done on online platforms. We are missing swimming classes. Now we all are typing in the computer instead of writing with pens in the notebook. The distribution of certificates encourages the children to participate in more activities and projects, which is missing in online classes. We cannot share our lunch with our friends and have some fun. We are missing a good and healthy routine. Ex: Waking up in the early morning eating proper breakfast and going to school. Due to online classes, we are not going to school, so there is a loss of jobs of the people who work in school like staff and caretakers. Online classes cause strain on eyes, the eyes start swelling up and paining. Virtual attention span is very low, they have distractions such as children annotating, chatting privately, masquerading and troubling teachers. Our studying goes more slowly. Ex: Just to finish a chapter in real school we take 1 week, but in online we take two because children donā€™t take it seriously. Lack of concentration. Our physical exercise decreases as we sometimes donā€™t switch on cameras during exercise class. Ex: In real school the teacher would supervise everybody and because of that we cannot stop. Whereas in online classes we can easily switch of the camera and not exercise! Performing arts and sports really suffer in online classes. There are some children who underestimate these arts and sports and donā€™t join. Which cause lack of physical exercise.

We sometimes can miss studying because of internet issues, and power cuts. Teachers also can have these general issues. Because of this our studies go slowly. Sitting for a long time on a chair can cause back pain and soreness. Spine pain too. Intense requirement for self-discipline. Which will be pretty hard for us kids. Cheating is also prone as we can go to the internet anytime and search for the answers. According to one 2009 study, 73.8% of students surveyed felt that it was easier to cheat in an online class. Online learning is inaccessible to the computer illiterate population. Screen time is increased a lot due to online classes. Missing the fun of dressing up for school festivals. Students might have not carried their bags for a very long time. And when they start carrying their bags, they will feel very weak because of the weight of school books. New students will also miss out on making new friends. Classes can be interrupted, disrupted and jeopardized because of unknown people. Probably Hackers (this really happened. This weird guy named Chippo actually started hacking our classes by masquerading and... you know what, that's actually a tale for another day.) Studentsā€™ creativity will not increase. Because in real school we draw our own border lines and our own designs and we used to use our own imagination. The sky was the limit. But now in online class we are doing everything in Quizizz and PowerPoint etc. Your laptop is the limit (note this point please). In school we have to reach at the proper time. But in online classes students can give different excuse, can join the classes in the middle or also not even join! Ex: ā€œMaā€™am there was a power cut at my placeā€ or ā€œMaā€™am, I had some internet issuesā€ or ā€œMaā€™am, I went to my auntā€™s houseā€ or ā€œMaā€™am, I was not feeling well.ā€ Sometimes they wonā€™t even be sick or at their auntā€™s house. But students are dishonest just to miss online classes. In real school we cannot eat food in the class. But in online classes students switch off their cameras or webcams and start eating. Overall, it's just a bad idea šŸ™…šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ™…šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸš«.

I know right? It's agree to disagree. I would actually like to elaborate on this. There are a whole lot of things that prove that online classes are the best. This is just an ALTERNATIVE or I hope so. I mean: you can't go on skipping school for 1 or 2 years. You need some kind of learning. Especially when your in middle school (like me.) As for the point which I asked you to note down, I contributed that point. And yes. I was in the Against(cons) team. I actually changed teams after asking my teacher because it's not worth fighting for a lost cause unless you have something to support you other than 3 middle schoolers and a bunch of people motivating you. But otherwise I think this was an awesome thing to write about! Thank you so much for reading till this word. and here's a virtual cookie for you! šŸŖ
